Of course, this means little in the short term. The Wife took the exam back in December an didn't start getting called about job openings until a week or so ago. Where it would have been very useful for her to have had that income in January, February, and March, by the time they called she'd already started on her new job (and, as I was fielding most of the calls, the Census people seemed genuinely perplexed as to why she wasn't getting back to them). At least the guy this morning said that as they're doing the bulk of their hiring now I'm likely to not have to wait such a long time.
Needless to say, I'd be very happy to be able to tell them when they do call that I've got other work and can't do this, but it's nice to know that I'm at least in the "first group" (after all the assorted Veteran categories) to be considered.
