Summer ...

One of the things that The Wife was excited about when scoping out this place was that they had grills in the back yard (and gardening spaces, but she's not pulled the trigger on that as yet). So she and The Girls (we have both of them this week) are heading down there with some steaks, etc.

I hope it's all she was expecting ... I have my doubts, and especially since we don't have a "grilling rules" sheet (and there's some sheet of regulations/instructions for everything here) to know exactly what's expected of us (or, for that matter, how the grills work). I'd be in a quandary as to all the controls, heat levels, hot zones, and necessary timing involved ... they, I assume will just figure out how to turn one of the grills on (there are both gas and charcoal units down there) and wing it.

I wish I could find a place that I like for reading around here. One evening I did go out in the back yard there, once the sun was behind the other buildings, and it wasn't too bad, but it's either been really hot, or swarming with mosquitoes when I've tried it since. Needless to say, I miss my old neighborhood parks, especially the one right out in front of our old building. I don't know if I'm ever going to get acclimated to not living there. I suspect I'm headed towards being a bitter and cranky old guy.

One thing I need to find is some place to write. I have a stack of books awaiting reviewing, but have yet to find some place I can go to write late. The Starbucks up here closes at 9, which is awfully early for me, and there don't seem to be any other good options. I can read in the McDonald's down at Foster, but it's even more of a freakshow than the one at Chicago & State was, and they're not very supportive of people settling in with laptops.

Oh well ... will be interested in seeing how the gals did with the grills ...
