Well, that was interesting ...

I was poking around in the back corners of GMail and found some stuff that I'd just as well have coming in up front ... like notices from I still haven't found anybody that I know listed as a relative, but they were making suggestions.

While poking around in their site, I saw that there was updated regional info - supposedly due to a big increase in sample data, and so I went to take a look. They say that with the new data, they're able to be a lot more precise on the location targeting ... and I went from a historically explicable hodge-podge of European ancestry, to a pretty straight forward 98% Great Britain & Wales with 2% Sweden. Yep, the whitest of the white boys.

Needless to say, the corresponding map was now a whole lot less interesting.

I do find it amusing that my ancestors, who have been hanging out on this side of the Atlantic since the Mayflower, managed to not intermix with anybody in those many generations leading up to me. I kind of messed that up, as The Wife is a slight bit Native American (and hence The Girls are too), but it sort of explains how resonant the phrase "Wogs begin at Calais" has always been to me!

Heh ...
