Well, my brother had sent me a bit of birthday money (via a check, remember those?) and tonight on my way out to pick up meds at Walgreens and get some reading in at Starbucks (they have four 2-tops open in the back of the store - ooh, la, la!), I dropped into the bank, cashed said check, and ducked next door to the 7-11 to turn that cash into Amazon gift card money (which is remarkably easy ... for all the weirdness of taking cash into Casa del Slurpee and coming out with bolstered balance at the global PX).
When I got home, I took advantage of "Prime Day" and ordered 150ft of Cat6 ethernet cable, some pass-through grommets for going through the wall (and not tracking all the way around the apartment), and a replacement battery for my old phone (a whole different project).
Now I am eagerly awaiting being able to finally enjoy the gigabit bandwidth that is supposedly oozing out of the ethernet router sitting out by The Wife's desk. It will feel so good to not have to wait 5 minutes for a posting pop-up box to resolve itself over on Facebook, or random images to crawl out of the digital void on almost any other page.
As any of my long-time, still breathing, readers may appreciate, I'm honestly more of a "curse the darkness" kind of guy, so I'm feeling reasonably impressed with myself metaphorically getting up off my butt and doing something about this connection conundrum (although, predictably, my butt in reality was anchored to my chair for most of the time).
Oh, and, by the way ... do you have any idea of how hard it is to find a wall grommet (as opposed to those gaping ones for desks, etc.) that has enough space in the tube part to get a RJ45 plug through it? I was afraid "Prime Day" was going to expire before I decided on which to order!
