Had over a half century to think about this ...
My cousin bought me a copy of Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band for my 10th birthday. I think he was in college at the time and was coming through Chicago. Needless to say, I was thrilled.

I'm relieved that I'm not significantly "losing my hair", and still don't have any grandchildren (yet), but the song's been out there ... at one point speaking of an age that was unimaginably far away (hey, nobody thought I'd live to see 30!), and recently been more of a clock ticking down to an inevitable.

Interestingly, McCartney wrote the core of this back when he was fourteen, with him and Lennon punching it up for use on the album. So many elements of loss, disappointment, surprise, remorse, and relief threaded through this as it hung there somewhere in the cob-webbed back alleys of my mind, and it's odd finally hitting my "Beatles birthday"!
