A half a dozen poems ... #6

Oh, look ... the last of these bunch of poems. Not that anybody gives a fuck, since nobody reads them, but at least now I can get back to work on this case study (and my course reading). I wish there were some break in this program ... but for the whole 8 months, we get four days off ... and this isn't one of those times.

                    BENEATH THE RUINED KEEP OF DREAMS

                    1
                    what lies broken
                    in destruction's wake?
                    all things of significance,
                    all that we value;
                    day by day
                    frustration mounts
                    as hope corrodes
                    and strength decays
                    2
                    within the world
                    we are still apart,
                    our experience virtual,
                    our contact not real;
                    the only authenticity
                    arrives as pain,
                    asserts as pressure,
                    manifests as hate
                    3
                    these few good things,
                    these gems we cherish,
                    are always placed at risk;
                    we have no means
                    to shelter them,
                    no way to buffer
                    out that world
                    so hostile and insane
                    4
                    all our defenses fail
                    before this barrage,
                    blow by blow we suffer
                    damage that won't heal;
                    yet they press on, relentless,
                    not satisfied to beat us,
                    they seek obliteration
                    of our spirit, soul, and will
                    5
                    no line extending,
                    no path to free,
                    these are the doldrums
                    of chain and doom;
                    we are captive,
                    locked within a cage,
                    within a cell, within a dungeon,
                    beneath the ruined keep of dreams
