Great article ...

Snagged this link from moderndayknight's journal ... it's a piece by sci-fi author Orson Scott Card on liberal bias in the media. Largely based on Fox News and the reactions to it in the Leftist Press (such as the recent book Crazy Like A Fox), Card takes a look at how various types of stories get subtly, and not-so-subtly, twisted around to press Leftist agendas. Here are a couple of juicy quotes:

"The left-wing news media live in a tiny village of people who all think (or pretend to think) exactly alike. Therefore, to them any reporter or media outlet that rejects their premises must be insane or dishonest, and instead of seeking to refute them with actual evidence, they merely call them names and accuse them of venal motives."

"What makes the liberal bias in the mainstream media so pernicious is that they deny that they're biased and insist that their twisted version of events is "reality," and anyone who disagrees with them is either mentally or morally suspect. In other words, they're fanatics. And, like all good fanatics, they're utterly convinced that they're in sole possession of virtue and truth."

I frequently have wished that there was a 24/7 news channel that was to Fox News what Fox News is to CNN ... as I, frankly, get pretty sick of the "fair and balanced" crap. I would love to have a news source which was strictly conservative, that would call traitorous bastards like John Kerry or the Klintons "treasonous scum" and not apologize for it! Why can't we have a news channel that would still give us Sean Hannity, but would tell that wimpy dickhead Alan Colmes to take a hike?

Da Senator???

Yes, it's true ... there is a push by some Illinois Republicans to "Draft Ditka" (see http://draftditka.com) to fill the void left by naughty boy Jack Ryan (ex of Jeri Ryan, Voyager's 7of9) when he dropped out of the race. For those of you who were living on another planet in the 80's, Mike Ditka is the football hall-of-famer who was Da Coach for Da Bears when they won Superbowl XX (a major milestone in my life!).

Now, don't get me wrong, I'm excited about the possibilities that Ryan being out of the race opens up for the Libertarian candidate Jerry Kohn (http://www.kohn2004.org/), but having Ditka running would present some fascinating dynamics. First of all, of course, would be the pure Discordian jollies of having Da Coach (think of the old Saturday Night Live "Superfans" skits) running for Da Senate ... it would just be too surreal! Plus, it would create a truely 3-dimensional race, with Kohn being the "small government" or "Constitutionally responsible" candidate, vs. the (predictable) Democrat, Obama, vs., well, Ditka ... one of the sports columnists in the Tribune did this hilarious piece a few days back about a debate between Ditka and Obama, with Ditka winning the day with "What I wanna know is how many Superbowls has my opponent won for the citizens of this state?" ... heh!

Anyway, I wanted to pass along this bit of info ... it's right up there on the "the world has gone nuts, and I like it" scale with that Shrek soap dispenser! Now, if you'll excuse me, I'll go back to surfing for more Jeri Ryan pics ...
