Grumble ...

Damn! I had been watching a case of the TV version of Pokemon cards (much cheaper than the TCG cards) all day, but had to go out for a bit, and got back to my computer thirty seconds after it closed! And, to add insult to injury, the damn thing went for the minimum bid! I get those for Daughter #2 so that she doesn't get too jealous about the other cards I get for her sister. (sigh) Oh, well ... I have 2/3 of a case still here for her (she got some out of it this morning to keep her quiet ... she's home sick again ... enough for her Mom to read the paper), but it would have been nice to "back that up", especially for about half of what I paid for the last one. Bummer.

No ... no ... no ... no ...

I will not bid on things at "retail"! ...
I will not bid on things at "retail"! ...
I will not bid on things at "retail"! ...
No matter HOW rare the cards are or how long they've been on the "need" list!

ARRRGH! Two of the "Wizards' stamped" promos (of the 3 that aren't in the collection already) are currently up on eBay! I just hate paying any more than a buck a card, though ...the Pikachu one would be $7.98 (with "buy it now" plus shipping) and my "cheap reference site" has it listed for $13 ... none of my "reference sites" have the other, Dark Charmeleon, to be able to compare its price, but what's up for auction is a mint card, still sealed in its original plastic pack, the "buy it now" with shipping would be an insane $17.48 (insane for me, at least ... who knows, the card might be "worth" five times that, I can't tell since none of the sites I rely on for pricing have any!). Man, this is frustrating. It's a bitch being both greedy and cheap!

{edit} ... I guess it wasn't just me finding those a bit on the pricey side ... both auctions expired without getting any bids!

Wow ...

Since we're on the topic of Pokemon/eBay ...

I was amazed to see somebody putting up one of those "Ex Collector Tins" for a starting bid of $20 (with a "buy it now" of $22) ... admittedly, some sites are selling these at as much as $24.99 (see link), but that's what I bought a couple of cases of at about $3 each a while back. I was watching this auction as I was sure that nobody would bite at that price point, but what do you know, it went for $20 plus a very high $8.50 shipping charge!

I've been planning on putting those up with an opening bid of like $8.00 and a buy-it-now of $10 ... now I'm thinking that I could open bidding at $10 and do like $15 for the b-i-n figure ... plus I was only going to charge $4.50 shipping (as they are just under a pound in the small Priority Mail boxes). I should get off my butt and get those up for sale while the Xmas acquisition madness is upon the populace!

You're sick of hearing this already ...

Maaaaaaan ... I thought I had a DEAL just now ... I found an auction for six holos, 2 of which we needed, which was sitting there, with one bid, at it's opening bid of $2.00 ... I did a little research, saw that the two cards we didn't have "retailed" over $20 between them, and went in with a fairly substantial bid. I came up as the high bidder with 33 seconds left ... "oh, bliss, oh joy", right? NO! Somebody had loosed a bot on it with less than a minute left, and it (in typical rapid succession of 8-second intervals) pushed bid after bid in, finally passing me with 18 seconds left to go in the auction. Not enough time for me (on dial-up, especially) to respond, but plenty of time for it to shoot off more bids if it had to. Damn, I hate those fuckign bots! Nothing like being in a wide-open auction (the earlier bid had been from yesterday) having a high bid with under a minute to go, sitting there ready to pay and suddenly discover some god-damned program that you have no HOPE of beating has swept in and snagged it from you. I hope the motherfucking winner gets terminal papercuts from the fucking cards!
