Loving the Internet ...

There are times when I want wet-ware implants.

These usually come from "really awesome" data retrieval attempts from the Web ... last night The Wife was trying to remember the name of a movie, described it enough that I was able to plug a key bit of the title into IMBD and within a minute she had a print-out in her hand with the full cast list. I just was looking to quote part of a song, and really didn't even remember the artist, but I was able to google on a 4-word snippet of the lyrics and had the thing (turned out to be Bauhaus' St. Vitus Dance) up on my screen in seconds!

I'm enough of a geezer that I vividly recall the pre-PC era, when "research" was "RESEARCH" and involved big heavy books and a lot of time and frustration.

I just wish everything on the Web worked this well ... and I could have it grafted onto my BRAIN!

heh ...

Tagging LJ

Spurred by a question posed in itzwicks' journal, I have started to try to tag some of my entries. Now, I've been around LiveJournal for a long time (over six years) and have nearly 2,500 entries, so this may take a while. When reading the discussion on tagging entries, it occurred to me that it might well be useful to be able to locate stuff like "poetry" or "book reviews" or "movie reviews", etc. without manually paging through years of entries. Needless to say, however, this is just the sort of obsessive/compulsive activity that I find attractive. Anybody else go back through years of entries to add tags to their journals?

Another EIGHT more poems!

You're getting tired of this, right?

Nobody's reading any of these anyway, are they?

Well, the little notebook I'm transcribing has got 47 poems in it, and this batch just brings us up to 23 ... so we're only half through. Might as well sit back and enjoy it. Click on a poem and think of England or something ...

YouSuck!

WTF? Where the hell did THAT come from?

OK ... I think I've gotten rid of it now, but WHAT THE FUCK was that stupid "we'd show you ads if we could" navigation bar doing on top of my Friends List page just now??? I've got a Permanent account ... I thought they weren't going to be messing with our shit. It pisses me off to have to go searching for how to turn that fucking thing off. Damn, I miss the old days around L.J.
