NOW WITH AUDIO!!!

OK, so I've been messing around with this for a bit ... I currently have the audio file parked over at WebLogImages, and I've been having some "issues" with making their files play nice with LiveJournal (for some reason their "embed" code, which works just fine in the Semagic preview window, simply disappears when actually posted to LJ, so I've had to switch back to a direct link to the file), so this is probably not the "final word" on how these things will show up here, but it will have to do for now. Anyway ... we have the long-awaited audio "poetry reading" accompaniment to the poems in place ...

As noted above, I'm still messing around with this, and am still not 100% happy with it (I've got queries in at both WebLogImages and LiveJournals to clarify some of the "how come this isn't working the way I want it to?" questions), but at least you for the first time ever (assuming that you're not in posession of one of the rare "reading tapes" I made back in the 80's) can hear me croaking out one of my depressoid screeds!

Sound recorders ...

Anybody care to suggest a cheap (free?) replacement for the Sound Recorder that comes with Windows? Frankly, I don't mind using it, but I can't seem to get it to record more than 60 seconds at a time, although it seems to be able to append additional files (which works fine for my poetry reading, having handy "staza gaps" to use for connecting points) all I want. It would be nice if there was a slightly more flexible version. Anybody have any suggestions?

And, wow ... those .wav files are friggin' HUGE ... the 80-second poem file I just did is over 13mb in the .wav format, but only 548kb when converted over to .mp3! One of the issues that I'm presently dealing with (see previous post) is that when I upload the .mp3 file to WebLogImages, it changes it to a nominal .wav file ... although the size remains the same. Now, I can get this to play in Windows Media Player, but not in WinAmp for some reason unless I manually change the extension back to .mp3 (which then plays fine), which is a bit of a pain in the butt!

NOW we're talkin' ...

Hat-tip to deathboy for this remarkable bit of news ...

Ketamine "Treats Depression In Hours"

A few years back we tried to get me onto some anti-depressants, but I couldn't stand any of them (they made me three flavors of "Zombie Brendan", and there weren't enough brains in the world to keep me on that crap) ... and I'm pretty sure I don't have that problem (nudge-nudge, wink-wink) with "Special K" ... now all I need to do is find a doc willing to scrip me up with the non-non-hallucinatory "original formula" (because I'm a Shamanic Professional, dammit!).
