Geez ... dead in here or what?

Well, yes, I have been more or less up all night, but nobody's been posting on my Friends List, which makes me lonely ... really, only sohma_g had a substantiative post overnight, and that was simply crowing over her new "lucky in love" status without giving out any juicy details!

I also noticed getting zip response to either of my past two posts ... and I'm willing to do the math involved to realize that maybe the two concepts are linked and nobody's hanging out in L.J. at the moment.

I do have a question, however ...

How do you, my long-suffering readers, feel about my "go look over there" posts? Frankly, I don't necessarily feel like cross-posting all my work blog stuff in here, yet, at times, there will be stuff that I find interesting/amusing that's been spewed out in there that I'd like to have folks check out. The format of a brief post describing what Eschatos has been up to, with a link over to "his blog" seems to work for me, and I'm wondering if that's something that "works for you" as well.

Certainly there are likely to be times when I post SecondLife stuff in here (as I have previously), but anymore I'm living over there (for work), so a lot of the stuff I have kicking around my head to write about has to deal with "in-world" stuff, which feels a lot more natural to have in my "in-world blog" rather than here.

You gonna click through when I suggest it???

Summer in January ...

I haven't been able to find out just how warm it got here today, but at 7pm my Desktop Weather was still saying it was 60° outside ... and when I'd gone out this afternoon to run some errands (around 3pm), I could have sworn that it felt like it was as high as 70°!

I guess that'll show a "Global Warming Denier" like me, huh?

Pretty bizarre for January in Chicago, that's for sure.

So international ...

Wow ... I have that MapLoco thing up on the profile page of my LibraryThing account, and although they've not had "cumulative" stats for a while (dunno why ... guess it broke), it does tell me what ISPs have recently dropped folks off to check out my info. This is frequently rather mundane, but every once in a while it's more interesting, like tonight:

I feel so international! I wonder what prompted such a spurt of far-flung interest?

Bleh ...

I'm really pissed at myself.

I started this "big crunchy book review" (of The Bell Curve) a week or so back and it's been half-written sitting in my Semagic LJ client. I've been too damn tired after work to get into it most nights and really wanted to have it knocked out this weekend, but here it is, late on Sunday night, and I still haven't gotten back into it. Bad Brendan!

I'm really exhausted, so I may go crash now and get up at 5 to work on it. I have two other books which I'm nearly done reading, and I'd hate to have a "log jam" of reviews to-be-written building up.

Speaking of stuff I need to get done, I still haven't had a chance to install that groovy new video card into my system, and given that my old card crashed my system yet again (while in S.L.) last night, I really do need to get that taken care of.

I pretty much spent all weekend wrestling with The Wife's new system, which has been a pain in the ass since all her programs and stuff are on a XP-formatted HD (which I've switched out to be a USB drive), while her new box is running Vista.

Anybody have a clue how one might be able to migrate a paid-for, legal, registered copy of MS Office from an XP drive to the new Vista system? The Wife is VERY MUCH NOT HAPPY with the concept of having to use OpenOffice to play with .doc files but I am very reluctant to waste the last of a 3-install license on her system since we have one of them already there, just unable to run!

This having to upgrade her to Vista (especially given that she is pretty much "computer illiterate") has been a massive pain in the ass, as she's acting like I'm needlessly complicating things. {grumble grumble grumble}
