Damn ...

I keep trying to do stuff to bring in at least a dribble of money ... recently had on-line surveys recommended to me ... signed up for several of those services ... WHAT A WASTE OF TIME! I've probably spent 10 hours filling out the damn pre-survey questionnaires and have NEVER actually made it into a survey! I've responded to dozens of these damn things and every time get bumped out as "not the profile they're looking for"! I've had several people recommend this to me ... how the HELL do they get in on these damn things?

So frustrating. I also was chasing after some of those "write content for websites" deals, but when I did the math on that, I'd likely be making $4/hr or less on those ... at that rate I might as well be mopping floors at a fast food place.

OMG!!!

I've been on the Internet for a very long time.

However, the access to information that's becoming possible now with the expansion of Social Networking is truly amazing. I just got hooked up with a Facebook Group (via a Yahoo Group, via some digging on Archive.org) for folks who were users of American PeopleLink (aka PLINK) back in the mid-80's (well, Plink existed from '84-'91). I even appear on the "historical" site, in the guest list for the 1986 "mega party" in New York!

As much as I've poo-pooh'ed FaceBook, I have ended up finding people from deep in my past, and from various contexts, via that. I still don't much care for it as an interface (would somebody make those stupid games/quizzes go away?), but in terms of digging up people, it's amazing.

I am somewhat staggered to think that I've been doing this on-line stuff now for a quarter century ... PLINK, CI$, AOL, IRC, LJ, and beyond!
