YouSuck!

How odd ...

I mentioned before that when I've done a post about "that new network marketing thing featuring a famous real estate investor" in here, there have been inexplicable quasi-ReTweets (quasi in that they're not really identifying it with my Twitter presence) of the post in various (and, oddly enough, different) Twitters. Here's what I'm talking about:

As I noted, this thing seems to be bringing together the worst elements of MLM and SEO/Affiliate marketing ... not only is the organization's web presence a typical "squeeze page" structure, but they obviously have bots looking for any mention of the company, which then get re-tweeted. Since MOST of the things that I've found on the web were pretty clearly "seeded" articles that promoted the scam, I guess this makes sense ("building legitimacy" in these folks' Twitter feeds), but it's bizarre that even things where I'm SLAMMING the program get picked up.

I'm not mentioning the name here (to keep me from showing up again in these!), but it just seems so sleazy that this is all "process" and no "content" (like all that SEO/Affiliate crap), to the extent that their bots are even spreading negative messages (obviously, nobody had bothered to read my post before passing it along!).

What would be fun would to start a meme where hundreds of web folks would be posting things savaging the T.N. and see how many of these assholes' Twitter feeds would feature them!

God, I hate the sleazy shit out that's out there ... and the fact that it looks like only people DOING sleazy shit are making any money.

Did you notice?

Was it a shock to not have a post from me yesterday after doing 52 in 30 days?

You didn't notice?

Ah.

Well ...

I guess that tells me something, doesn't it (sniff).

Oh, you were just waiting for this, right?

I'm running a bit gun-shy on The Job Stalker these days, and am sort of freaking out that I didn't post for almost two days ... bleh ... I wish I'd gotten some positive feedback from the ChicagoNow gal.

Anyway, a new post is up with me bloviating on about using .info domains for connecting to one's on-line resume.

I pretty much reduced what could very well have been another full-length post about my networking activities into a very brief intro paragraph, largely due to being skittish about being dumped on for "sounding too much like a personal blog" ... but I'm also nervous as it's not a great lead paragraph for the post, having nothing (aside from explaining why I'd not been right back with the follow-up to Monday's post) to do with the rest of it.

I hope there's no problem with "name checking". The god-damned new FTC rules went into effect yesterday, and do I get in trouble for plugging two events where I got free pizza? Do I need to specifically state that I consumed free appetizers at an event? Do I NOT write about something commercial where I've gotten a free lunch? How's that "change" working for you these days? Grrrrrrr ...

On a far more positive note, I was surprised by a phone interview this afternoon for a position that I'd just applied for on Monday! The gal wanted me to bundle up a bunch of writing samples and get them off to her, which I did. For some reason I still can't seem to get MegaUpload to work for this ... I was able to download the 45mb zipped file from there that I'd uploaded last week, but neither of the folks who I've been trying to pass this along to have been able to get the file (resulting in my having to piece it out into a half a dozen e-mail attachments). This is for a good job, albeit far out in the suburbs, with a company that doubled in size last year and has been fast outstripping its previous communications functions ... which is where I come in.

I've learned to not get overly excited (given the repeated deep disappointments I've had), but, hey, this is 3 phone interviews in just over 3 weeks, which is a VAST improvement over the previous six months!

Today is Daughter #1's birthday, and I've been a sappy fool all day mooning over memories of her birth 14 years ago. It's amazing to me that this brilliant young lady was that tiny baby just a little while back ... all very bitter-sweet, of course. We just did her presents (and will be doing her cake) today because she had a metric shitload of homework, with her party (taking her and some of her buddies down ice skating at Millennium Park, followed by Dim Sum in Chinatown) coming this weekend.

I also have a meeting tomorrow with the gal at that agency that I did a writing assignment for a week or so back, she supposedly has some other projects for me. Wish me luck on that and the gig I heard from today ... as it would, obviously, be VERY nice thing to roll into the New Year with a job!
