I broke down and did it ...

(heavy sigh) ... man ... these days spending money on anything is so hard (note my previous comments about the rare treat it is when I fork over $4 for a sandwich!) ... but my current computer system has been acting so freaky of late, that I've finally broken down and ordered a new one. What I currently have is several years old, with an AMD-K6/3D processor running at something like 333mhz and only 128megs of ram, and just a 10gig HD ... functional for W98, but starting to show its age.

This is what I'm getting (OK, quit sniggering about it being an E-Machines model):

* AMD Athlon™ XP 2000+ Processor
* 512MB DDR (PC 2100) Memory
* 80GB Hard Drive
* 32x10x40 Max CD-RW Drive
* 16x Max DVD Drive
* 3.5" 1.44MB Floppy Drive
* 56K ITU v.92 Fax/Modem
* 10/100Mbps Built-In Ethernet
* AC '97 Audio Sound
* S3 ProSavage8 Integrated Video
* Keyboard And Wheel Mouse
* Amplified Speakers
* Microsoft® Windows® XP Home Edition

All of this for $555.52 including tax and delivery ... which is going to be spread out over 4 "easy payments" ... so I'm only going to be having to come up with $140/month for four months, which I think I can manage. Except for only having 512megs of ram (I will eventually bump that up to 1gig, the system will take up to 2gigs), it has all the stuff I was looking for, including dual CD-R and DVD drives, a big HD, and a "current era" processor ... plus, it has USB ports and audio jacks on the front (a long-running wish for my current system). I figure I would have spent pretty much the cost of this new system trying to get my current one up to those numbers!

Now I really really need to get a job, but I'll feel better about a new gig without having to be "embarassed" about my home system!
