Today was my Mom's birthday, and we had her over for dinner. I cooked one of Jamie Oliver's (The Naked Chef on Food Network) menus ... the one from the "Chef's Night Out" show.

- Broth of Steaming Scallops, Prawns and Clams with Noodles, Black Beans, Coriander and Lime
- Roast Leg of Lamb with Pancetta, Sage and Rosemary
- Roasted Red Onion with Thyme and Butter

We opted to go for birthday cake instead of the Vanilla Baked Fruit from the menu. It was quite a bit of work, but there were no disasters ... although if I were to do this again, I'd change the approach to the lamb, not bothering to "tunnel" down the bone and just putting all the herb mixture into slits around the roast.

My brother and his wife had sent my mom some nice Dean & Deluca caviar, and she brought that over for appetizers, and I cracked open the tin of foi gras that my wife had given me for our anniversary (that I'd been waiting for a "special occasion" to get into).

The Girls were reasonably well behaved (after a day of not being very cooperative with cleaning up the house to make it presentable to their grandmother!) and my Mom was pleased. We also got her a new printer and some videos.

I managed to finish up the re-decoration on The Girls' rooms in time for tonight (got the last bits done on #1's room this afternoon), and will post before-and-after pics when I get them.
