Bleh ...

Well, took my computer in to see what can be done. Nothing I tried got beyond the fact it was saying "What hard drive? I don't see any hard drive!". I never could figure out "how to get into BIOS", the boot disk I made didn't help at all, and all the messing I did with cables and configurations didn't seem to do anything to improve the situation. THIS is why I was leery of going into the "tech services" business ... I can write code like a maniac, but get very flustered when having to deal with the hardware!

It's going to cost $45 for them to check out what is wrong ... the best I guess I can hope for (well, I could HOPE for them to miraculously get the HD working while they're looking at it, but the universe likes to jerk me around too much for me to expect that that could happen) is that the HD is toasted and I'll just need to get a new HD and re-install from the recovery CDs. If they have to DO stuff it's $65/hr, and I don't want to get too deep into this. My new laser scanner/printer showed up yesterday, and it's intended for use with that machine and I'm frustrated not having that up and running.

Ah, more shit to be depressed about.
