I've been pounding the pavement for six weeks so far, without a single callback (even from the places that I thought I'd had real positive pre-interviews with). I am getting pretty frustrated with this.
Needless to say, I think my resume has a lot to do with this ... just like when I was looking for "professional" work. I keep hearing "why are you wanting to get a bartending job?" which seems to translate to "you're way over-qualified and there's no way we'd hire you!".
I've even been toying with the idea of falsifying my resume.
Frankly, I think I'd be hired by now if I'd spent the past 25 years in PRISON rather than in a series of executive positions. Maybe if I re-write my resume to claim that I killed somebody back in 1979 and had been incarcerated since then, somebody would decide that I'd be OK as a bartender! I'd still have most of the education on there ... just none of the "professional" stuff which seems to be the kiss of death for me getting a job.
I mean, WHAT THE FUCK DOES IT TAKE???
How much lower do I have to set my sights? Really, what's next, trying to get a job as a Wal-Mart greeter? I have education and experience sufficient to be RUNNING A CORPORATION, but I can't get anybody to even consider hiring me for a mid-level professional job. But it seems that because I have that potential, nobody wants to look at me for a bartending gig. Hell, not even the part-time/on-call positions are getting back to me!
This is making me crazy ...
