They'd heard about Taste of Chicago, and initially suggested that (over my obvious lack of enthusiasm) for dinner. I packed up The Girls, and we headed down to meet them at the Palmer House, and ended up running late due to really awful traffic on State ... they met us right outside and we meandered over to Grant Park.
Soon enough they saw why I'd been less than enthusiastic about the Taste (crowds, lines, etc. etc. etc.), and were looking for other options. The Girls had been pushing for us to get them something at a Chinese booth there, so I suggested a run down to Chinatown, figuring that it would not only be a good food option but would involve at least some sightseeing for them!
Unfortunately, Chinatown shuts down fairly early mid-week, so after dinner (we went to Three Happiness, our "usual spot" these days) there were only limited shopping options, but they did seem to enjoy poking around one store. My favorite bakery down there closed just as we were heading down the street, so we had to backtrack to the one on the north end of Wentworth, which always seems to stay open an hour longer than the other guys ... this, of course, was so that I could pick up BBQ Pork Buns and Sesame Balls. along with some butterfly cookies for everybody.
Our timing sort of sucked for getting home, as a White Sox game was just letting out and we had to wait for about four trains before we could wedge on one. The Girls and I got off at Monroe with my cousin so we could chat a bit before heading our separate ways, then hopped back on the next train to come home.
Yes, another way exciting entry for y'all, no doubt.
