Pictures ... lotsa pictures ...

OK, so tonight I finally get into my camera for the past month, month-and-a-half, worth of shots. I've been mentioning some of the stuff we've been doing, and been promising pictures, but I figure, at this remove, I'll take it easy on you and just do a few, but I'll be real pissed if you don't click on the cut tag since I was so nice and all to not just have the dump of pics parading across your Friends Page, yaknow!

Most of these shots are prime examples of why I wanted to get a new camera, as the current one sucks in low-light ... and these aren't even "portraits" (which, if not shot in daylight, tend to have two options: "blurry" or "washed out") ... I miss the days when I used to take real good pictures (with my old film camera).

Mickey Mouse starting out the holiday shopping season with the "Lights Parade" ... yes, it's a long way from Orlando ...

Taking up the rear of the Lights Parade was Santa on a pretty damn cool float ... since they can't plan for snow, they have confetti canons giving Santa the right setting ...

The CTA "Santa Train" on the inside ... they do a fun job on this every year ... holiday upholstery, wrapping and tinsel, "ice" on the windows, and funny made-up ads and jokes ... the two people standing towards the back are the "elfs" who hand out mini candy canes to the riders ...

One of the challenges of the "Santa Train" is actually getting to see Santa, as he's on a flatbed car towards the middle of the train ... here's the car, but you can't see Santa as he's in a sleigh down past the trees under the "Happy Holidays" sign ... must be "interesting" going through the subway tunnels exposed like that ...

Early morning Thanksgiving lesson ... don't piss off a 60ft-tall sailor on a spinach high ...

And the flipside of giant sailors, tiny horses ... these are barely 2ft tall, lending some of the younger crowd to suggest they'd be "just fine" in an apartment ...

Then there was The Circus ... I have never been able to get a decent shot at the circus ... this is about the best I ended up with ... anybody want to buy me a nice digital SLR? ...

And, finally (a good shot), the lighting of the Xmas tree down at Daley Plaza ...

Well ... that catches folks up with the pics. I really need to get a "new system" when I get a new camera ... for the past several years I've been downloading the digital pics to my old laptop, which involves getting it (and the various peripherals I have hooked into it) set up, which is a bit of a pain in and of itself, then having the camera dump the pictures (15min to a half-hour), getting them sorted into files, re-naming them chronologically (Compu-pic does this with just a few clicks, thankfully), creating "index prints", filing all this, and then figuring what images I might want to grab to share here or make prints of. Generally, the process takes an hour or two.

How the hell do folks just "get pics off the camera" and post them?
