It would be easy to miss ... since the local sports media seems to have a huge blind-spot on this ... but our local IWFL team, the Chicago Force is going into the National Championship Game this weekend, carrying with them an undefeated season.What's being missed here? The Force are a women's full-contact full-speed football team, in a league (the IWFL) that's already up to 40 teams!
I've been interested in the Force as a sign of things opening up for women's football. As I've probably noted before, my second daughter, had she been a boy, would already be in pee-wee football as a middle linebacker (she's big, strong, and has a mean streak), and I keep thinking that knocking the snot out of little skinny running backs and wide receivers would be something that she'd really enjoy!
Anyway, it doesn't look like I'm going to be making the game (nobody else here had any but grudging interest in going to it), but I thought I'd pass along the info here, just in case the presence of Women's pro football is a revelation to some readers ...
