Whoa ...

I'm pretty pleased with myself at the moment ... I was trying to reconstruct the files for my long-abandoned (but still "up") Poetry site, and I was having to move them from an OLD computer one floppy at a time, then transfer the files from the floppies to a flash drive on my slightly less old laptop. This process (especially since I could only dig up 4 blank floppies) was taking quite a while, so I tried digging into the AT&T web space where the site was. Now, I have done NOTHING on this since May, 2002 ... so it's remarkable that I was not only able to ferret out the log-in information (which still worked) but was able to eventually (on about the fifth approach) get a current FTP program to get in there (most of their instructions on the help site were circa Windows95!).

Now I have all 1500 or so files that comprise the site safely on my HD without having to mess around with long waits (I forgot that it took almost as long to dump files off a floppy as it took to write them there in the first place) and re-constructing the directory structure once I moved everything!

I'm just amazed that after 7 years I was able to snag that. Go me, eh? Maybe one of these days I'll figure out how to get in there and see what sort of e-mail has piled up in all that time!
