I'm still waiting to see what's happening with the distributor deal. I've not bitched about this here (despite being one of the major stresses in my life at the moment), but last year we got set up with a Distributor for the book biz which replaced an ad-hoc group of about a half dozen Wholesalers that had been providing our books to the bookstores ... it has been almost a full year and we have YET to get paid a red cent. This means that we've gone from getting six small checks a month to getting NOTHING (well, one small check from Amazon, since we kept them in-house) per month ... which means that there is NO cash-flow, and without cash-flow we can't print new books, can't reprint old books, can't buy ads, can't do ANYTHING. And it's not like the asshole Distributor isn't selling our books... they're constantly sending me purchase orders for MORE ... orders that I can't fill since they aren't paying us anything which means we don't have any cash which means we can't re-print the books to fill the orders. To add insult to injury, the've also nickel-and-dimed us with charges to that the "amount due" in their records is about 1/6 of what it SHOULD be.
There is a group of about 50-75 publishers that are getting ready with a class action suit against these guys, but I don't know what good it will do ... sure, it might get us the pennies-on-the-dollar that we're supposedly owed at this point, but we're basically screwed.
It's a great temptation to just declare bankruptcy and close down Eschaton since we haven't had a direct order in ages (oh, but we had a fucking credit card charge-back today!) despite sending out hundred of catalogs a month and driving as much traffic as we can afford to our site.
What a pisser ... spend six years of my life working 14 hour days, pretty much 7 days a week, not getting a paycheck for that whole time ... and to have the whole thing collapse like this. Sucks big time.
But, hey, why do I bother writing in here anyway ... nobody fucking reads this shit.
